What is the Youth Center?
The Youth Center is a youth-shaped community space in Szécsény, where local young people can not only take part in programs but also build community, develop new skills, learn, and have a say in shaping their own future.
It is a safe and open space where it feels good to be, where young people’s voices matter, and where they can experience that they are important.
Why is it needed?
Nógrád County is one of the most disadvantaged regions in the country. Many young people grow up with limited opportunities for connection, self-expression, and personal development. We often hear them say:
“There’s nowhere to go, nothing to do.”
The Youth Center responds to this need by creating a place where young people can create, learn, be part of a community, and gain new experiences.
Where are we now?
In 2024, we purchased an old, unused building in Szécsény, which we are transforming into a youth center. Renovation is ongoing, supported by extensive volunteer work and donations.
The backyard and courtyard are already taking shape, and community programs have started in the rear part of the building. However, the main community space still requires significant renovation, especially the replacement of the roof structure and the development of the interior spaces.
What do we use donations for?
Donations are used flexibly, in line with current needs, including:
- continuing the renovation and covering maintenance costs
- developing and furnishing the community space
- organizing youth programs and community events
- ensuring the long-term operation of the space
