What is a Youth Center?
The Youth Center in Szécsény is a community space built and shaped by young people, designed for those aged 14–30 to meet, develop, and create in a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment. It is more than just a building: it represents a vision of how a rural youth community can become active, self-organizing, and socially visible. For many local young people, Ifiház is the only space where they can connect with peers, take part in programs, or bring their own ideas to life. Our mission is to establish and sustain a truly youth-led community hub, where young people can find belonging, participate in meaningful activities, realize their initiatives, and become engaged members of local society.
Programs
Although the renovation of the Youth Center is still underway, we already organize regular events to bring young people together and offer a taste of what the renewed space will provide. Past programs have included community cookouts, board game and darts nights, family movie screenings, and group hikes. This summer we hosted a “Chill Afternoon,” complete with music, games, and colorful activities. Such occasions allow young people to meet, connect, and shape the identity and future programming of the Youth Center, ensuring it grows into not merely a venue but a living community that we build together.

Opportunities for those with fewer chances
In Szécsény and its surroundings, opportunities are often limited. We pay particular attention to disadvantaged youth, who are full of energy and ideas but have few chances to thrive. For them, the Youth Center is an open door.
Growth within community, not in isolation
Our aim is to prevent young people from drifting away by offering them community, support, and direction. Youth Center is a safe environment where togetherness is valued, and where young people can once again experience what it means to belong to a real, supportive community.
Our vision
The building — once a disco — is now ours, but much work remains. Renovation has already begun, yet our long-term goal is to create a fully renewed, potentially multi-level community center. We want Youth Center to become not just a place, but the driving force of youth community life in Szécsény.
