Partner
Egyesek Youth Association has been working with young people in the Szécsény micro-region of Nógrád County since 2012, an area that is socially and economically disadvantaged in Hungary. Through skills-development and community-building programs, the association aims to help young people discover their strengths through experiential learning and volunteering. Participants develop key skills such as communication, responsibility, and initiative, and become more active in shaping their own future and that of their community. Programs involving international volunteers also support the development of English language skills and offer opportunities to learn about different cultures, broadening young people’s perspectives.
Volunteering
Become part of an international volunteer team and create wonderful memories together with children in Szécsény! Volunteers will participate in a variety of hands-on activities that celebrate cultural exchange - sharing songs, dances, and traditions - while also supporting the children’s English language development. Your creativity will shine through in leading games and sports activities. Your role goes beyond teaching: you’ll help them gain joy, confidence, and trust. Join us and help fill this summer camp with color and meaningful connections!
Accommodation and Food
The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps program. There is no participation fee, and all volunteers will stay in shared rooms at a fully equipped community center. Cold food will be provided for breakfast, and hot meals for lunch and dinner. Volunteers will need to co-prepare the food using the ingredients provided by the organization. Vegetarian, gluten and lactose-free options will be available. Each volunteer will also receive €7 per day as pocket money. Travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed based on the distance traveled after participation. All necessary equipment for the tasks will be provided.
Location and Leisure
Szécsény is a charming small town in Nógrád County, located in Northern Hungary close to the Slovak border. With around 5,900 residents, Szécsény offers a relaxed local atmosphere while still providing all essential amenities, including cafés and pubs, restaurants, shops, ATMs, a pharmacy, and a central bus station.
During the weekend, you will have free time to explore Szécsény and its surroundings. The town offers a lake for fishing, a beautiful park, and nearby hiking spots. From the local bus station, larger towns such as Balassagyarmat and Salgótarján are within 30 minutes, while Budapest is approximately 2 hours away. Szécsény is also just a 30-minute bus ride from Hollókő, a UNESCO World Heritage village.
Requirements
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are empathetic and patient, with experience or interest in teaching children and teenagers. Strong communication skills are essential—even nonverbal communication—along with the ability to connect easily with different age groups. This camp is especially ideal for those who have worked with children before or are looking to gain experience in this field.
