Egyesek Youth Association created its brand new project called RomaTECH aiming to trigger local youth from Nógrád county to create meaningful media which also develops youth active participation, advocacy and visibility.
4 local and 1 non-local youth workers organized the project throughout the 8 months. It took place mainly in Hollókő, Nagylóc, Rimóc, Nógrádszakál, Varsány, Endrefalva youth and/or after school clubs (named Tanoda) where we involved both roma and non-roma youth with less-opportunity.
The programme elements:
- Regular, weekly media sessions in Tanodas
- Community actions/open events
- Workshops to develop skills besides creating media
- Online activities: campaign in Vodafone Angel project
- Media training in April
- International Voluntary Camp in July
- Oscar Gala
- Evaluation with the stakeholders
Methods the youth workers used are mainly action-based non-formal learning as well as intercultural learning. During the weekly sessions local youth were attracted by short inputs on creating media (photo and video) which they tested either through training activities or in their own communities. Local youth learnt how to create their own message and in which ways they can channel it to the desired target group, what is social and new media, how to use them ethically and in a most efficient way for their own and their communities’ benefit.
As the result of this project Anna Dupák and Tamás Mahner completed a successful campaign in the Vodafone Angel competition landing among the 10 best finalists.
