The Hajnalcsillag Tanoda (Morning Star After-school) was established by the Kecskemét Reformed Congregation to support disadvantaged (primarily Roma) children in a safe and nurturing environment. The congregation actively participates in the life of the Tanoda, providing both financial and spiritual support. Beyond assisting children's academic progress, the Tanoda also contributes to strengthening the community.
Volunteering
Help make the Hajnalcsillag Tanoda summer camp in Kecskemét a reality and become part of an international volunteer team that brings real change to the lives of children aged 6 to 18! The Tanoda has two main goals: strengthening Roma culture and identity and fostering Christian faith. As a volunteer, you can teach English, lead games and sports activities, and also share deeper values. You will play a key role in boosting the children’s self-confidence, building trust, and bringing joy into their lives. Join us to create a fun and inspiring environment where learning, laughter, and endless opportunities go hand in hand!
Volunteers
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are empathetic, patient, and have experience or interest in teaching children and teenagers. Strong communication skills are essential—even nonverbal communication—along with the ability to connect easily with different age groups. This camp is especially ideal for those who have worked with children before or are looking to gain experience in this field.
Accommodation and food
The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps program. There is no participation fee. All volunteers will be accommodated in shared rooms in Kecskemét in a dormitory. We provide three meals a day (hot meals for lunch and dinner), with a vegetarian option available. Each volunteer will also receive €7 per day as pocket money. Travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed based on the distance after participation. All necessary equipment for the tasks will be provided.
Location and leisure
Kecskemét is one of Hungary’s rapidly developing cities, rich in historical and cultural heritage. It is famous for its Art Nouveau architecture, including the stunning City Hall, and the renowned Kodály Institute, a center for Hungarian music education. Volunteers will be welcomed into a friendly atmosphere with exciting programs and dedicated local communities open to international collaboration. Budapest, the country’s vibrant capital, is just an hour away by train, making it easy to include a visit in your plans.
