Partner

The Via-Viridis Association operates the Swallow Nest after-school (Fecskefészek Tanoda) in Pilisvörösvár, which has been welcoming local children since 2014. Their program is primarily aimed at children who struggle to fit into the education system and come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Their goal is not only to support the children in their studies but also to develop their social skills, helping them achieve long-term success in the job market. The center is open five days a week, providing development opportunities for 30 disadvantaged or special educational needs (SEN) children and youth aged 7 to 16.

Volunteering

Help make the summer camp a reality for children aged 7 to 16 by joining an international team of volunteers and making a lasting impact on their lives. The camp takes place within a Reformed Christian community, where prayer will be part of the daily program. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to teach English, lead games and sports activities, and most importantly, foster joy, trust, and confidence in the children. Join us in creating a brighter future for these kids—one filled with laughter, learning, and endless opportunities!

Participants

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are empathetic, patient, and have experience or interest in teaching children and teenagers. Strong communication skills are essential—even nonverbal communication—along with the ability to connect easily with different age groups. This camp is especially ideal for those who have worked with children before or are looking to gain experience in this field.

Accommodation and food

The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps program. There is no participation fee. All volunteers will be accommodated in shared two-bed rooms in Budapest, requiring a daily commute to Pilisvörösvár, which takes approximately one hour each way. We will provide a public transport pass to cover the commute. We provide two meals a day (cold breakfast and hot meals for lunch), with a vegetarian option available. Each volunteer will also receive €7 per day as pocket money and 5 EUR per day food allowance to cover the dinner. Travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed based on the distance after participation. All necessary equipment for the tasks will be provided.

Location and leisure

Pilisvörösvár is a town in the Budapest metropolitan area, located 18 kilometers northwest of the capital. It is home to one of the largest German minority communities in Hungary. Evenings and the second weekend will be free, allowing volunteers to explore the beauty of Pilisvörösvár, Budapest, and the surrounding mountains. Budapest offers breathtaking landscapes, a rich architectural and historical heritage, a uniquely diverse culture, delicious cuisine, and a wide range of exciting leisure activities for visitors to enjoy.
