On May 9, we gathered with our members and anyone curious to join us for an international picnic in the calm, green surroundings of Thurzó Park in Budapest. The goal? To create a welcoming space where people from different backgrounds could come together, connect, and simply enjoy some quality time in good company.
We kicked things off with some playful icebreaker activities that immediately set a relaxed and friendly tone for the day.
Standing in a circle, we started with a name memory game: simple, fun, and surprisingly effective. Laughter echoed through the park as people introduced themselves and tried to remember each other’s names, already forming the first bonds of the afternoon.

The next activity was a visual card game. Everyone picked an image that resonated with them in some way and then shared their choice in small groups. This created a space for self-expression and meaningful conversations. It was beautiful to see how through dixit cards could make interesting and vulnerable conversations.
To close the structured part of the event, we invited participants to draw random questions from a pile and use them as conversation starters with new faces. These quick chats were full of curiosity, openness, and laughter, an easy, authentic way to get to know each other beyond surface-level introductions.
The rest of the afternoon flowed naturally. Some people laid out picnic blankets, others continued chatting, and a few even brought snacks to share. The atmosphere was warm, inclusive, and full of positive energy.
Thanks to everyone’s active participation and open hearts, the event turned out to be a real success. It reminded us of what community really means, feeling seen, heard, and connected, even among people you’ve just met.
Our Erasmus+ intern, Youngy, shared it best:
When you're living abroad, events like this are essential. They help you step out of your comfort zone, build genuine connections, and start feeling at home. Even when you're far away.
And from Sevcan, one of our communication volunteers at Egyesek Youth Association:
I really liked that so many people from different countries came together and connected with each other. It was such a positive experience, and I hope to see them again at future events!
We couldn’t agree more with them.
