Youth work in Szécsény
Since 2012, we have been providing in the Szécsény sub-region skill-building and community-strengthening sessions for young people to help them discover what they are capable of through experiential learning and volunteering.
What do we do?
Our youth workers, with the help of 10 international volunteers, deliver English language skills development programmes to around 200-300 local children and young people every year. We use an experiential learning methodology to develop the skills of the young people in our programmes.
Workshops
Weekly skill-building sessions in schools and youth centres in the sub-region with local and international volunteers
Skills development
Our programmes focus on developing the skills needed for a successful life, such as communication, taking initiative, decision-making
Community development
We organise community building programmes for our partners and the wider local community
English language
Develop English language skills through playful activities led by international volunteers
Openning the world
Making international youth programmes accessible to young people
Summer camps
With our international volunteers, we help our local communities to organise summer camps to give children the best possible experience
The impact of youth work
Young people participating in our programmes can discover what they would like to achieve in life, what their strengths are, what they can build on and practice the skills that will help them to achieve it (communication, responsibility, initiative-taking). English language sessions run by international volunteers develop their language skills and open up the world by learning about different cultures. The shared experience of volunteering and helping out encourages young people to become more actively involved in shaping their own and their community's desired future.
Skills that young people and children in our programmes develop
Egyesek youth center and community space
In the next 2-3 years, we want to strengthen our presence in Szécsény and create a youth community directly linked to us through the creation of our own youth community centre. The aim is to create and run an independent, autonomous community space in Szécsény, offering high quality programmes and services for youth and children. This will allow us to focus much more on awareness-raising, community building, promoting initiative and supporting grassroots local initiatives. We would like to identify, involve and engage young people who can be activated in the sub-region, organise regular leisure activities for them, hold a series of development programmes (workshops, trainings) and involve the rest of them as much as possible in our activities.
Visszajelzések
They bring us the world, through volunteers from abroad.
If young people have a cohesive community, or just programmes to take part in, they are more likely to come back to Szécsény because they know they have something to look forward to.
Thanks to Egyesek we have many stories and experiences to share.
