Project Summary

On this youth exchange a group of young people came together to explore “what does it mean to be an adult?”. Being an adult is no longer: from school to work to home to marriage to children, as how it was for our parents. At the age of our first job, our parents were almost 10 years closer to retirement, they were married and we were already born.  These great pillars of society as previous generations knew them are either clearly in crisis (marriage and having children are no longer priorities) or there is much more complexity (which can be read as more freedom but also more uncertainty) that was added to the equation. At the time, travelling was not something to be contemplated. If you wanted to travel before all "adult things", you weren’t “serious”. In conclusion, being an adult today is not the same thing as it was 30 years ago. But what exactly does it mean to be an adult in 2024?

Objectives

The project aims to bring together young people to have multiple backgrounds and cultures and to discover and promote inclusiveness.

With non-formal education techniques, young people will be encouraged to develop an open mind and a spirit of inclusion/inclusiveness. They will create, together with the help of the artistic youth leaders, a final product, which will allow them to share the results of their exchange in a creative way.

This youth exchange will aim to put into perspective the different facets of “what does it mean to be an adult today?”:

  • Create a healthy discussion, based on respectful listening to hear all opinions and points of view

  • Discuss what it was for our parents and grandparents and what it is for us

  • Live an immersive experience by bringing together young people from different backgrounds where they will contribute to the success of the project

  • Create a play together that will be presented publicly at the end of the project

Activities

The main tool of this youth exchange will be theatre, improvisation workshops and required sketch expression workshops. Through theatrical workshops led by a professional artist, young people will work on the theme of being an adult.

In addition to the creative approach, the project will include various workshops which will allow us to learn more about the theme of the project and to enrich our discussions by sharing stories, experiences and many others.

  • Animated debates (3D)

  • World cafes

  • Thematic debates

  • Intergenerational meetings

  • Role games

  • Escape game (what’s an adult?)
