TZ.MTV-05 Cultural Exposure
Work: Participants of this project will have an opportunity to be exposed to number of activities leading to understanding of Tanzanian culture in all aspects. This includes; Kiswahili Language classes ( at least 2 hours every day); Drumming and dancing classes, meeting with different societies living in Tanzania (Non-Africans), Home stay- living with local family to experience the daily life, Education tour to various social, cultural and economic institutions; Meeting various age group in the society ( children, Youth, Women, and elders); Cultural tours to the destinations outside the community project; Be involved in various social projects; preparing presentations to various groups on cultural realities of your own country. Flexibility is required on all activities.
Accomodation and food: To be provided for free at the host family and at the project. Food will not be available outside designated project location. Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated at the local host family in the community. Staying with a host family is a great way to learn and understanding the culture. The host family will be able to introduce volunteers to the nuances of life and the food and culture. Volunteers are expected to be part of the family and not guest!
Location of the Project: The Project will be hosted in Magole community located in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam about 30km from Dar es Salaam city center. It has a beautiful landscape and natural attractions where some wild animals (Monkeys, rabbits and birds) are still visible. It is accessible by public and private transport. Convenient shops are available and there is signal for mobile phones where internet can be accessible as well. Free time activities: Weekends will be free for volunteers to spend time with their host families. However there is also a possibilities to visit places like Zanzibar and Bagamoyo historical towns, Wildlife safari), cultural and Eco-tourism activities (We can provide some tips and price quotes if needed).
Project hosted by: It is believed that the world’s population recently passed more than 7 billion people, an incredible number to measure. In Tanzania, Africa as well around the world many people still barely meet anyone outside of a small circle of family, friends and community while even more never venture beyond the culture in which they were raised. The cultural exposure project is aiming to serve as an important means of introducing people around the world to realities they might not normally be exposed to. Many barriers have begun to fall between people around the world, with near-instantaneous communication allowing people on opposite sides of the world to meaningfully interact. Cultural exposure project encourage people from all walk of life to appreciate and understand distinct cultures and play a key role in creating productive dialogue across the world.
Meeting point: Volunteers are expected to arrive at the project on first Thursday of the month at 2:00 pm and depart Saturday of last week before 10:00 am. If you wish to arrive earlier or stay longer due to the flight arrangements you should inform us in advance and each extra day will attract a little fee of €20 (EUR) to cover the cost of accommodation and three meals. Maximum 2 days.
Additional comments: Non-refundable monthly participation fee of €300 per month or equivalent Tanzanian shillings are expected to be paid on arrival day at once. Participation fee does not cover the cost of medical/health services, all types of insurances, cost of relevant Visas or permits, airport drop off on departure date, pocket money, free/leisure activities and other personal expenses. However; participation fee does cover the cost of airport pickups on arrival, orientation on arrival, transport to go to the project related activities, food and accommodation during the program and general running cost of the project.
